From the little info I've found, a little bit of fuel/gas goes in the tank after they are built. A bit of gas/fuel is needed to move the vehicules around a bit, get them onto a transport truck, etc... before they reach a dealership. Even cars that come from overseas.

They are shipped with a few gallons, typically 3-8 gallons. Dealers are not reimbursed for filling the tank at delivery, so there are some who do not fill them (mine is not among those).

When I test drove a Deserthawk right off the transport, we had to drive straight to the a gas station. It was almost bone dry. I would have had a free tank had I bought that one.

When my SO test drove her 2017 Cherokee, it showed a range of 17 miles. But when they delivered it for pickup, they had filled the tank for her.

My dealer did NOT put any additional gas in the tank. Left it at ~ 3 gallons and said, "Don't forget to stop at the gas station very soon." As compensation they installed a set of Mopar wheel locks for free. They included a wheel/tire warranty for free. They threw in a fob warranty for free. Had a tire destroyed by a broken bolt in the road. Got a free OEM tire balanced/installed by the dealer. Used the fob warranty to get a 3rd fob. Use it as a spare (without battery) hidden in the interior. I was happy with the deal at purchase and even happier now.

Interesting. I think mine had a quarter in it, if I remember correctly? I also think it had 20 miles or something so maybe they had filled it up a little bit prior for test drives.

Every car I've bought (In Montana) the dealer would run it through the wash and fill up the tank. In the grand scheme of things they "loose" what, $25 on a $30,000 sale? lol
