As many of you know, the official Jeep Vehicle Order Tracking System (VOTS) is down for maintenance and has been for some time. However, it turns out the system can still look up basic order status information. For whatever reason, the engineers at Chrysler decided not to show this information and display an generic error message instead.
So, I went ahead and wrote a browser extension for Google Chrome that lets you pull up this hidden information:
I wish I could use this service. I'm very impatient. Zero updates in 2 weeks except they moved a couple hours the delivery estimate. Hasn't change since then. I need the call from the dealer ASAP :|
Thanks everyone! I'm glad I could help at least someone.
A little background for anyone that's interested... I'm a software developer specializing mostly in web technologies. My wife ordered a Cherokee a few weeks ago and is waiting patiently, but of course the VOTS system appears to be down for maintenance. I took a peek at what the website actually does when you click "submit" because I was curious. It turns out the informational part of the system still works... it still returns your status and basic information about the vehicle ordered. However, they haven't finished building out the visual part (UI) to display the information in a pretty way. So in the mean time, they decided to just throw up a nondescript error message and call it a day. But the information is still there, hidden. All my plugin does is reveal that information.
I imagine in few weeks (months?) when they do finally finish the redesign, there will be a much more professional visual overview of your vehicle and order status, at which point this plugin will be obsolete and I'll take it down. Until then, at least we have a way to get some basic information without constantly calling in.
You dont actually need to access the extension at all. Once you have it installed, just use Chrome to go to: https://www.jeep.com/vots/
The extension adds a "GET INFO" button next to the existing "Submit" button. Just enter your last name and the last 8 digits of your VIN and click on "GET INFO".

(I'm just going to add this here in case it comes in handy for anyone else)
Pro Tip!
For some additional info, you can actually look at the full code that the VOTS site returns to the query.
1. Open Chrome and go to https://www.jeep.com/vots/
2. In the browser settings menu navigate to: Tools > Developer Tools
3. In the pane that pops up at the bottom of the screen, click on the Network tab
4. Now enter your last name and last 8 of VIN into the VOTS tracker page and click "SUBMIT"
5. You'll see the response that comes back from the server on the left side of the bottom pane. It will start with "VOTSServlet?firstName..."
6. Click on that and then click on the "Response" tab to the right.
The string that shows up there is the full response from the VOTS server. IT includes stuff like the full specs of your ordered Jeep (Like, cold weather package, V6 etc.) as well as some actual shipment details about your delivery.
On entry to the VOTS page and after typing in my data, I had to click the 'SUBMIT' button first to get the system to serve up the data. Then clicking the 'GET INFO' button displayed it.
Otherwise the V_104 error pops up that @Frank Hawk mentioned.

I saw and clicked the ''GET INFO'' button after installing the patch but still same error message. if you misspelled your last name does it still works? are CAPS an issue?
I was getting the same error early on. I think that just means that they do not have you in the system yet. Have you been given a VIN#? Or are you looking up by VON?
Yeah that's strange. As others have said, once you get the VIN assigned you should be in the system. If I had to guess, I'd say they spelled your last name wrong. I would try calling them at 877-426-5337 and ask for a status/make sure your name is in the system correctly.
Hmmm... I have never had an issue once I received a VIN. I cannot check on my computer until I get into work tomorrow. I only have an iPad at my disposal until then.
@Frank Hawk - I think that RiseUpBears is right. You may not be in the system yet. I got information on my order just fine, but when I put your info in (both CLEMENT and CLÉMENT) the system returned "The last name or tracking number you entered is incorrect." And the last name field is not case sensitive.
I'm in the middle of a move, but realized my laptop is not yet packed. My vehicle info works with either a VIN or VON. I was also getting an error message when using your credentials. The same error I was receiving a week or so ago. I'm thinking it may just be a little early for you yet. It's really not all that exciting once you see it, just giving you information that you already have. I understand your burning desire to know it works though!!
It took a couple of days after my VIN was assigned that I was able to see info. I'd suggest waiting a bit, and try again. Also, hit the submit button first, then the get info button.
07/19/2014 Order taken at dealership on Saturday.
07/21/2014 Dealer emails me a Print Order Confirmation (POC) with an 8-digit Vehicle Order Number (VON) and a status of BA - Pending Order.
07/28/2014 Used @kcarbone927's Chrome extension, my last name, and the VON to display info from VOTS. It showed a VIN had been assigned on 7/24 and gave a status of D - Production Scheduled.
Thank you, kcarbone927 for the new way to get info about our orders (I am also in the MOTS system in jeepgarage.org). I got the email from Jeep confirming my order and telling me that production should be in early August and delivery in early September. It will be interesting to follow my Cherokee through production and shipping.
I used Treaty's pro tip to look at the entire data string that was returned and it seems to have a section for shipment details. Does the extension show them if they are there?

That's a good question! The problem with writing a patch like this is I can't be sure of the format until I have some good data to test with. And since the only test I have is my own order (still in "D" status :frown, that's really the only thing I have to go on.
I was planning on updating it with more data as my own order progresses... unless someone has a completed or order they'd like to share with me!
Here's the latest on your order:
Owner: @JC
Dealer: ...
Vehicle: 2015 CHEROKEE TRAILHAWK 4X4
Model: KLJH74
Order Number: Yep!
VIN: Yep!
Status: Production Scheduled
Status Code: D1
Delay Reason: None
Time Added: 2014-07-24
@@JC - If I read this correctly, your TH went D1 on 7/24. Didn't you order on 7/18? My order went in on 7/21 and is currently in D status so my Jeep should be close behind your TH.
I assume that they schedule production in batches of similar configurations and maybe even colors. Don't know but I wouldn't start to worry for a few more weeks. Mine could actually be ready too early as my lease isn't up til Nov and I was hoping to time the build so it was ready around the end of September/beginning of October. With the average lead time being reported around 10-12 weeks I figured I'd better get the order in when I did but I might have been too early. Ah well I can always garage the Cherokee til it's time to return the G and try to burn up the rest of my miles.
