LED Fog Light Housing (not just an LED bulb)

Has anyone tried either of these full LED fog lights by Optilux or JW Speaker? These are not bulbs that go in the stock plastic headlights, these are functional fog light housings designed to use LEDs. They are both available as a vehicle specific kit for the Wrangler, but as near as I can tell, the Wrangler and the Cherokee share fog lights. So if they fit the Wrangler they should fit the Cherokee. One would want the h16 harness to fit the psx24w bulbs the Cherokee has.

Optilux

JW Speaker

The optilux is 9w per lamp, so it "may" throw an error code since the 9W is less than the 24W psx24w bulb. But the JW speaker I think is 20W per lamp. That seemssSo close to the 24W psx24w bulb that I bet it does not throw a code.

Some owners over at the Wrangler forum have experienced flickering due to the PWM circuitry. That can be eliminated with the proper harness.

I have the JWS 6145's sitting on my coffee table, will probably install this coming weekend. They are the same fitment as on the Wrangler, a couple members here have thrown on some of the other options already.

I've been looking at the 6145's, but I'm having a hard time justifying the cost. They're nice lights though with proper upper cutoffs. Should I or not? Quandary.......

Interesting link on the Wranglers, thank you. On most of the vendor sites they advertise the optilux and JWS as plug and play... I wonder why they do not note needing a special harness for the PWM power? Also interesting some Wranglers owners said no flicker, some could barely notice a flicker, some made it sound like its nearly a strobe light. I guess different perspectives.

Clew, I will be very interested to hear if you could install The JW speaker lights as is, or if you needed one of the harnesses with a capacitor that some of the Wrangler folks are using.

Installed the JWS 6145's Saturday. Outside of soldering the new connector (included) in place of the existing one, it was a uneventful. No flicker or light out (don't think there is PWM or load monitoring on the fogs). Mine needed to be aimed/adjusted slightly, which is easy enough. Really like the beam's flood and cutoff, as well as the black housing which blends into the fascia well along with my blacked out projectors, they also match the DRLs and CBI HIDs perfectly. From my "research" there are 1 or 2 brighter options than the 6145, but the 6145 had the best fog spread/beam. YMMV.

Hey Clew,
How are you liking those 6145's after putting some miles on them?

Was thinking about getting these or the Vision X kit that @myfirstcherokee got in his first teaser.

Really like them aesthetically and functionally. Was messing around on some back roads last night on my way to mtn bike, they did really well flooding the foreground/sides and I felt comfortable with just them on at about 40mph.
I was deciding between the same two. From what I saw on wrangler forums, the Vision X (Optimus model IIRC) was a bit higher in lumens than the JWS, but the JWS had more floody optics and the VX had more throwey optics (if that makes sense). Dont think you can go wrong either way, I wanted a bit more width and like the look of the JWS (didnt hurt I had some store credit that knocked some $ off the JWS). Rigid makes a couple good alternatives as well.

Thanks Clew!

With the more floody optics, have you seen any issues with blinding on coming traffic at all or are you good there? Was thinking about the 60degree VX but worry about that possibility so might go with the 20degree if I do end up going with VX.

Sorry, I meant floody in the sense they are wide angle side to side. The design of the optics on the JWS has a very clear cutoff line. Will try to remember to snap a pic tonight of it. Cant speak to how the VX handles that as far as a cutoff.
