Front bumper light bar bracket

First holes have been drilled so whats some more?

Today decided to start on my light bar bracket. Wanted something to sit above the number plate and mount back under the bonnet on the top of the bumper in a similar manner to the antenna bracket I just made.

Bent two pieces of 40mm x 3mm strip at right angles then welded another strip between them to mount under the number plate screws.

The results:

180w 20in bar sitting is place

Leaves enough room under the light bar to reach under to the bonnet realease. All cleaned up now and paint is drying to fit later this week.

Cheers, Dave.

Dave,
And you post a pick further back with the bonnet closed, I'm really interested in this as I'd like to get a light bar for mine but struggling to figure out the best way to do in.

Thanks
Jason

Should have it mounted up later this week once the paint dries and will get some pics up of it finished. Was only sitting in place in the photo (hence the hand holding the light from falling off). Would have loved it to sit a lot lower but needed to be able to slide hand under to the bonnet release. Bottom of the light is about level with the bottom of the bonnet.

The other option I considered was mounting under the bumper behind the grill but I have the Adaptive Cruise Control radar dome in the way

Cheers, Dave.

This is exactly what I'm looking for. Any chance you can post up dimensions on what you made? Drawing would be better still!

I don't plan on putting an antenna up there so I'd just put a larger 20"-30" light bar up there in addition to one down below and two side lights.

That looks great, do you get much vibration or bouncing of the light?

Hmmm, so, this is interesting to me because I was pondering a bracket that would pick up existing bolts in that underhood area and protrude from that gap as a stand off for ropes attaching kayaks to the roof. For THs. you could tie off to the two hook, rope comes straight up and hit the standoff then slant back to the kayak. Jut a simple short goalpost type design.

^ You could make a bracket like this to do a lot of things.

Hmm...

When we mount test equipment (most commonly high speed cameras) on test aircraft, our most common method is to do what they call "picking up" existing fasteners, and replacing them with longer and stronger ones. That way after the test, we can put the aircraft back into normal configuration easily. Sometimes we make entire replacement panels so we can punch a hole for wiring, and again, after the test, remove the wiring, replace our camera mount panel with the normal one and move on. the orange protuberances seem on the large image linked below are all camera mounts. Click once on the image for a ridiculously large version.

So, when it comes to bolting stuff onto a vehicle, I prefer to pick up existing fasteners wherever possible.
