I would say for the average person it is money well spent.

I have a Limited with the 9 speaker and a TH with the 6 speaker system. I'm not an audiophile but the sound is definitely alot better in our Limited. Wish my TH had it.

I compared the sound quality of both at the dealership (using same songs, same volume levels). IMO, I'd say that the 9 speaker upgrade is definitely worth it.

I have always seen the need to upgrade my speaker system in my cars after I bought them to get a decent sound. Have the factory upgrade 9 speakers in my Cherokee and love it. My wife just leased a Mercedes GLA 250 with optional better radio/sound, and to my ears its not nearly as good as my Cherokee system. I did change the factory settings on my Cherokee to suit my old ears, however, more treble less bass, and that made a big positive difference.

If you go to the 6,5" it would probably be fine , but remember you won't get any high tones from it because of the 300mhz crossover. (I'm talking about the 9 speaker system) . I don't think the 6 speaker has the issue. Look for EcoHawk here on the forums , he know the sound system in and out , actually there are 2-3 people on here who know the whole system.

I had a little amp installed under the passenger seat along with alpine 6.5 type s components (front doors and dash), 6x9 alpines in the back doors and an alpine PWE-S8 under the drivers seat this week, it makes a HUGE difference over the stock 6 speaker system. The installer really tuned it good and the sound stage is real nice and balanced, the vocals come at me right off the windshield. Everything looks 100% stock. $1200 well spent!

Hey guys, I just got myself the 2016 jc with altitude package. I have the 6 speaker setup and sounds pretty sub par. I upgraded the speakers and I noticed the two grilles in the tailgate . It had the connections already for the tweeters. I connected the tweeters back there but no sound is coming out. Has anyone ran into this problem? Any help would greatly be appreciated!

I personally think the audio system sucks. The factory 6 speaker system leaves a-lot left to be desired. My 2008 patriot with "premium sound" package has a better sound system, than my 2016 Cherokee with the 8.4" uconnect.

I will likely replace all the speakers, and perhaps even add a multi channel amp.

I added these in the front doors, no cutting necessary and a lot of bass:

I added these in the back doors, i had to cut a piece of the plastic basket, took 10 minutes for both doors, and they also have a lot of bass :

These went in the dash:

Alpine Premium on Europe

I have an TH 2016 model for Europe with the Alpine Premium equipment, because here we can't choice, the TH comes with it by default.
I have the opportunity to compare both systems (Premium vs normal) and the quality has high differences, mainly when you are over the 15-20% of the volume. The normal system begins to lost bass depth and gain saturation in the middles. The normal 6 speakers system is a good one, compared with other car brands, but it's not comparable with the Premium of the TH. I don't know what's the equipment (brand and model) for the 6 speakers version but the Premium version mounts (here in Europe/Spain):

12 channel surround with 506w of power
8" dual voice coil infinite baffle subwoofer
2 x 6x9" on front doors
2 x 3.5" on rear doors
2 x 6x9" on rear shelf
And 3 more speakers on the instrument panel (I don't know its size).

All Alpine brand. I'm not an audio expert but I have mounted manually a lot of audio systems (amp + speakers) in the past on others cars and I can say that this one is a very good choice.

Best regards!
