Auto Headlights Issue

Is there any adjustment for the sensitivity of the auto headlights? Mine are WAY too sensitive. It can be a bright sunny day, and if I drive by some trees that throw some shade, the headlights come on right away. Ive had many cars with auto headlights but never one that were this sensitive. I could honestly care less that the headlights do come on however, when they do, they dim the screens in the cluster and on my 8.4N. Then, because its so bright out, I cant see anything on the screens. My only solution so far is to adjust the dash lighting to keep the screens in parade mode during the day and then at night switch them back to normal.

I concur that their auto-light sensor is way too sensitive. I have the exact same problem where when driving through shaded areas, especially around dawn or dusk, it goes off/on repeatedly. It would be nice if there was some type of delay or smarter programming (e.g. time of day) to determine if the lights need to come on. But outside of hoping for some software update, I am not aware of any ability to adjust this.

I usually just set mine to off if the auto feature gets annoying. However, I can understand why manufacturers start putting auto headlights on cars. I cannot count how many cars I see driving at dusk without any lights on at all. Call it the 'dumbing down' of the typical driver.

Gotta pay close attention to that bright little screen in their hands instead of the steering wheel in front of them.

I would take it to the Dealer - If I had to describe mine I would say the timing is pretty spot on. Have never had the lights come on if the sun is shining no matter how over grown the trees are over the road. As I drive in or out of the garage, yes, on every time.

@tboo72, @enki, I would bet serious money that your sunlight sensors (small plastic dome in center of dashboard near windshield) have a manufacturing defect that is partially blocking the internal "eye," causing your systems to "think" it's nearly dusk in bright sunlight. I would take the advice of @David_Baker, visit the dealer's service department and describe the problem. The sensor is a few dollars and labor should be about an hour. If your KLs are still in warranty, the replacement would cost you nothing.

All of my KLs have been very close to when I would have turned them on myself; if anything I have had to turn them on a very few times when I thought it was time for them to be on, but very few.
