2014+ Jeep Cherokee Plug+Play HID Kit - RESISTOR FREE!

With the help of forum member @Wisconsin Mike, XenonDepot has come up with a Plug+Play HID kit for the 2014+ Jeep Cherokee; That’s right, NO resistors, No harness — simple plug+play.

Three forum members @ptrudel, @Stabone831, and @gravitywell) have been successfully using our plug+play Jeep HID kit for approximately 1-2 months prior to posting this thread. The rest of the forum testers (listed below) will be receiving their component in approximately 1 week, and can comment once they have the lights installed.

PRODUCT INFORMATION:

2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee — Product Required is a XenonDepot 9012 HID kit

2016 Jeep Cherokee - Product Required is a XenonDepot 9005 HID kit

You do NOT need to select any options on the product page such as "CanBUS" or "Mopar" when ordering the HID kit.

You *WOULD* however need to purchase this all new XenonDepot PWM Module in addition to the HID kit - pictures are coming.

Installation is literally this easy - Car Harness ==> PWM Module ==> Ballast ==> HID bulb - that's it!

If you've already purchased a XenonDepot HID kit (Xtreme HID kit), then all you would need to do is get the XenonDepot PWM Module; You do NOT need to purchase a new kit.

Note - @ptrudel and @gravitywell reported an *intermittent* brief error during cranking as the system voltage fell significantly, and did not provide enough power to start the ballasts (even though the ballasts are low-draw). As a result, the Jeep recognized the lack of current and threw a "Low Beam Out" error. However, a split-second later the alternator started producing power and the ballast ignited -- error gone. We cannot confirm that this product will work with any other HID ballasts or kits, nor is it intended to be used with another HID kit.

In short: Plug+Play, no relay harness, no resistors, no polarity to worry about, just a simple plug+play installation.

Steve

I had the LED kit installed with the cap/resistor harness to get the max output.
While the LED kit was better than stock, the HID kit is many times better.
Better light pattern and output.
Also, a 5k kit would be a close match the the DRL's (I have a 4k kit now, but would like to switch to a 5k). The LED's are 6k and to me looked blue, which didn't bother me but didn't match the DRL's.

Oh and one more huge difference... you would need to run some form of resistors with an LED kit to mitigate the light out error. Not the case with a HID kits plus PWM kit.

a 9012 bulb came out of my 2016,or the hir, i currently have the resistors(blue ones) and a 9012 led kit no problems, this is a 2016 by the way,I have the mopar relays,9005 bulbs, and 9006 bulbs sitting in a box on the floor, never used,Xenon sent me 9005 because they thought all 2016 cherokees had them,I would like to return these to them,i never paid for them,So will my 9006 extreme hid with phillips bulb option work on my 2016 if i purchase this new module?leds are ok but i wouldd like more light with no errors....

You do NOT need to select any options on the product page such as "CanBUS" or "Mopar" when ordering the HID kit.
  1. So the selected option should be..."WithoutCANbus"?
  2. What color option (temp) would best match the daytime running lights on my 2014 KL?
  3. How easy are these for a layman to install? Can someone please link instructions/tutorial (if one exists)?

Thanks in advance for answers. My gratitude to you and all the devs and testers for such an easy kit to install and I hope it can work wonders for everyone. The OEM headlights on the KL are a joke and borderline unsafe imo. Hoping to upgrade soon.

I have the same questions for @XenonDepot.

When you go to the page it prefills with the "Without CANbus" option filled in. That too me is different then 'Do not select any option". I assume it means that the correct option we need is already selected but I need that in plain English.

Also does the Philips Bulb 4300K provide more light, last longer, or both of those for the extra $45?

Thanks for all yours and others hard work to get an easier option out there for us.

@RojStock - You are correct -- You would need to select "WITHOUT". You honestly would not notice a difference between the XenonDepot bulbs vs Philips. The only actual difference would be that the Philips bulbs color shift to approximately 4700k after 100 hours of use -- which means that the color will get "crisper". Just double-check your bulb type, as we have had some 2016 owners tell us they needed 9005 bulbs -- which are different from 9012..
@osimj - They are sold in pairs! Good point btw, i will add that to the site.
@Jayhawks22 - double check your bulb type ,because a 9005 bulb is different from a 9012 bulb.

sorry to be a pain in the ass,Just ordered the pwm kit, your website has conflicting info, let me get this straight,2016 here

I can install the 9006 bulbs in place of the hir or 9012,I know its the right bulb cause i have the leds with blue boxes 2 on each side
Do i need to use the relays, blue resistors only pwm?
Install bulbs,no relays,no resistors,just the bulbs,ballasts and the pwm kit,is that correct?

If you have 9006's in your 2016, then yes. You will install the bulbs, the ballasts and the PWM kit. That's it.

If you have 9005's, then you'll need different bulbs, the ballasts, and the PWM kit.

No. Only at initial startup, then disappears. It's a voltage thing from what we've come up with. Doesn't actually affect how the lights work.

3rd times a charm?

When I placed the order xenondepot contacted me try a different part. They sent me the orange resistors which still threw the error. Contacted and they said that the they will send me the one that worked and waited about 2 weeks. Got the Blue ones and still having the same issue. Called today and they said they will send me the PWM. I hope this is the fix all for my 2016 Jeep Cherokee TH.

Getting it right in the 2016 TH is what has held me back from any aftermarket head lamp purchases. It's still too dang cold to be messing around and getting error messages. I actually got the high beam flash with just the OEM headlights and foggers on. I laughed as these are nothing compared to OEM Bi-level Xenon headlamps.

What shall we have? An '82 Margaux! Is it any good? Good....?, It will make you believe in God!

I would also be interested in this if there are some decent installation instructions provided. I can definitely tell the difference when I have my TH lights on next to my wifes Limited with stock HIDs.
