USB/AUX/SD Card slot plugs...

I'm still weeks away from getting my 2017 High Altitude and have been pouring over the owner's manual and watching YouTube videos. One video review from Australia brought up an interesting scenario. Do you owners find that the USB, AUX and SD Card slot plugs in the front console get dust and debris in them?

I have some extra silicone plugs for my laptop that are designed to seal those ports and others from the elements, and was thinking I'd use them in the Cherokee.

I ordered these ones off Amazon last year, fit pretty prefectly. And there's extras in case you lose any.

I'm also using identical silicone plugs in mine. Put them in about a week after I took delivery and except for the USB plug which always has my iPhone charging cable attached, they haven't come out since.

If you don't mind waiting for them to come from China, you can get a great price here:

I got the "clear" (more like cloudy colorless) and I love them. They keep debris out of the ports and they look like a factory option. I especially like the way they "glow" at night when they pick up the ambient light.

I actually never thought about dust. I copied my iTunes Library to a SD card, and the art won't display. So, I just use my iPod, which is plugged into the USB Port inside my console. I'll probably never use the SD slot, so I guess I don't really care if it gets dust in it.

Did you ever get a thread going about the art not showing ? I know a few members have, can't remember if you were there or not... I'm asking because a bunch of us have copied albums from iTunes to an SD card and have all the art showing.

It's off topic, I know...

So far no issue with dust dirt in the plugs, we do most of our connections with bluetooth.

I think the SD card slot in my TH will get about as much use as the 120v AC plug on the back of the console. Never thought twice about putting any kind of dust cover over those ports.

The art showed on the SD Card in my 2014 Journey Crossroad, but will not display in the Jeep. I am not about to go about resizing the art again. It works with the iPod (same files). Must be a Uconnect thing!

Hmmm. Truth be told, most of my albums on SD cards were ripped via Windows Media Player, because early on I thought Apple audio files weren't recognized in UConnect (they are). I did have some from iTunes where the art wasn't showing. But since the last two UConnect firmware updates, I have the impression most of that has been corrected.

If it can make you feel a little better, one member way back said he tested audio quality with a USB stick, an SD card and an iPod Classic connected via Aux, with the same library, and that for his ears the iPod won the contest
