MFC A Pillar Light Mounting Help....

I know...i know... they come with instructions right!?

Well it must totally be me because I attempted to install the mounts and I understand the concept of what it's doing but for me I must be doing something wrong.

The mount is basically hovering over the fender towards the front foot and I totally screwed up making the hole in the trim pieces. I didn't understand the template and it became a complete disaster. All my own fault of course.

Does anyone have any pointers on the install of these? I'll have to order new trim pieces before I can attempt this again but any help you guys can provide with pics would be helpful!

MFC A Pillar Light Mounting Help....

The instructions were good and I mostly understood it all but I didn't understand the template part so when drilling the cowl trim pieces the hole wasn't correct and didn't allow for proper installation. Also it may have been my fault for not understanding how to install the mount, but I get everything mounted but the mount foot itself almost is just floating over the fender and isn't sitting on it. So I've been racking the brain trying to figure out how it's not going to move if it doesn't contact the fender.

So I must be doing something wrong.

You're right in that the template was a bit confusing. Here's how mine looked:

I ended up installing the 3mm hex bolt and then used the template as a sort of "bullseye" to align it up be peering straight down through the gap:

Peering through the gap to align the template over the bolt.

Here's where my pilot hole ended up on the backside of the trim piece:

After widening with a small hole saw:

Installed:

Hope this helps! I took a ton of photos. Happy to provide more.
