We knew this was coming. Just makes me a little paranoid.
They did tell me that after the update was sent, I can only defer the update to a later time but it would continue to prompt me until I did update ... I guess it is like Apple and their updates ...

Have had it freeze once for no reason then while trying to fiddle with it it rebooted itself and had been OK ever since. Just an annoying issue where we can not select the state through the keyboard entry. Has been like that for the last 3 updates though. They keep promising and nothing happens...

Kinda sounds like they just told you something to get you off the phone. Let us know if you do get an over the air update, but color me skeptical.

Its not clear but maybe this owner has the optional subscription to u connect that allows things like remote start/unlock from any where and wifi access etc.
In that situation I can see FCA/u-connect being able to send a signal to the vehicle much as Sirrus XM can do for their radio component.
On Star has that system where they can actually disable the vehicle etc. but you do need an active link.
They (FCA) would have access under those conditions. Without an active link, activated on both ends, I do not believe that is a concern.
The hacking issues that I am aware of required access to the vehicle at some point prior to the event.
Now that is not to say its not possible but you do need that initial link set up to access the vehicle. No different than a computer with internet access turned off. If internet, wifi, and/or bluetooth is turned off to a computer there is no way a hacker can access the computer unless they have a access to the computer itself for that initial link, usually with malware.
Now I am no IT guy buy one thing I do know is if you can think of a possibility a hacker will provide the answer.

For example if you got to Apps on your Uconnect 8.4 system, you can access the Uconnect store to add hotspot service. In that case there has to be a link that can be established at any time.

In addition, I also receive monthly car health report emails every month without an active subscription. This seems to also verify that the Jeep still sends and receives data without a subscription active.

I am sure someone (or entity) could access the car with the right tools and resources (i.e. Vault 7 leak).

Ah I missed that link, looks like they were not lying to me, good to know there is an actual reference document now (they could not provide me anything yesterday).
