If so, that is a welcome improvement for me.

I'm definitely looking forward to this update. Thanks to the OP for bringing it to our attention. Now hopefully the phased rollout won't take too long...
Yes, can't wait for this feature! And Do Not Disturb will be nice. I doubt CarPlay will be available because I don't think even the 2017 Cherokees have it. Also most likely require a different USB jack.

Hmmm, I wonder if the dealerships have access to a downloadable firmware update? If so I should swing by the dealership I deal with in Holland, MI next weekend when I'm in town.
@JeepCares Do you have any information on the availability of the update to CAD owners?

JeepCares only covers the US, sadly...

There's something funky (smelly) about this over-the-air-only update business. OTA also means US market only. I don't like it one bit, and hope they make it widely available soon, or... at least explain why it isn't available for download...

Meh, there's something funny smelling about the fact they :
  1. never offered the wireless services in Canada
  2. built a modern system that only uses 3G

It really better not just be over the air. What happens if the unit fails the update? There has to be a backup solution that offers the ability to force flash the unit locally.

I didn't say it will remain OTA only, just that it is OTA only as of now.

You know how the Big 3 (Bell, Rogers and Telus) up here don't want competition, and the government has made it impossible for other players to find a decent market share. I think Sprint considered a move up here years ago, but wisely pulled back when they realized they couldn't compete.
Why did FCA choose Sprint ? Who knows. Canadian market is 1/10 that of the US so they don't really factor us into those decisions. The only way we can fight back is to complain loudly and/or buy from the competition who do offer cell integration up here... FCA boss in not from our continent, doesn't feel that neighborly love, ya know...

But it doesn't even say that, does it? How do we know that the TSB describing the new OTA updating process is not just an additional way the update will be released? It's quite possible it will become available for download from the Internet the same day it starts getting pushed to vehicles OTA, isn't it?

Yes of course, we're all hoping it will be downloadable soon. I don't see how they can avoid it, for many reasons. It's just frustrating to see how they communicate (ie don't communicate). Likely they want to test the OTA updating process, and the only way to test is to push the update OTA, no leaks. But they could have mentionned this up front so we wouldn't be wasting time trying to figure it all out...

A ***GUESS*** is Sprint offered FCA something the others would not. Could be price or development related or both. Reminds me of the 1st generation iPhone when Apple created the device during a secretive collaboration with AT&T, formerly Cingular Wireless. Back then there were criticisms about the relatively slow speed of the AT&T's 2.5G EDGE network and the iPhone's inability to connect using more modern 3G services. Wonder if other wireless companies around the world won't agree to pricing that keeps the service from being a loss-leader, particularly when there are a lot of people that trash the value of Uconnect Access anyway, which certainly is part of the cost/profit model.
