I want to upgrade the headlight bulbs on my 2015 Cherokee (KL) Trailhawk. I keep looking at different sites and some say use a 9006 replacement bulb, others say a 9012 replacement bulb, while others say a 9005 bulb. Can someone tell me what is the correct replacement upgraded bulb for my 2015 Trailhawk?:nerd::nerd::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Yeah 2014-2015 and early 2016 builds have 9012s, while later 2016s and non HID 2017s have 9005s.

Regular 9005 bulbs are rated at 65W while 9012s are rated at 55W, but 9012s make up for that with a superior output (compared to other 55W bulbs).
@tpm : just know that the Cherokee computer watches headlight bulbs very closely... and will throw errors and cut power to them if you use a different bulb type/wattage than OEM. I suggest you have a read in the Lighting section here on the forum, because the Cherokee's halogen headlights are a hot topic...

Edit : Len beat me to it... ;)

Edit #2 : just to clarify about 9005 vs 9006. Cherokees (2016-17) use 9005s (65W) and not 9006s (55W). They are identical as far as fitment and connector, but the 9006 was designed as a low beam bulb for twin bulb systems while the 9005 is the high beam bulb (more power). FCA went with the 9005 because it produces more light than the 9006, and of course the Cherokee only has one bulb per side. And the 9012s, while only rated at 55W, produce more light than a 9006, probably close to a 9005 in terms of lumens.

If you have a 2015 you have 9012.

2015 built 2016s also have 9012.

2016 build 2016s and on have 9005 bulbs.

Fixed typo.

So just checked my Purchase Sheet. And my 2014 Limited comes with High Intensity Discharge Headlamps. Does one burning out fall under our bumper to bumper warranty?

If not, would like to find a similar bulb. preferably not through the dealer.

I think the confusion comes from the fact that they have the same mounting tabs and work interchangeably. Saying that. I removed a pair of 9006 Halogens from my fiat when i put in my HIDs. In the meantime, would i be able to throw my old set in my wifes cherokee?

thanks,

Hey S~,

Your OEM HIDs are covered under basic warranty, so you should be able to get tht bulb covered. One thing I don't remember : will they give you a pair, because the other one is likely to go soon.

And by the way, the factory xenon bulbs are different than those from kits, because your housings are not 9005/9006/9012, they are a D3S if I recall. Xenon Depot sells them as well, if you ever need to buy some (cheaper than Mopar).

As far as fog light alternatives go, I'm not the best guy to help, but there are many others here who could.

One of mine failed at just over 12 months. First indications were a real pinkish red light as it started up, that got longer and longer still it stayed pink all the time. Dealer only replaced the one. 8 months later (now) the other side is starting to show a faint pinkish color when starting so I reckon it's on its way too.

So..... I followed up with our local dealership today.

The original sale date on my vehicle was November 23rd, 2013. TWENTY-THIRTEEN!?!?!

So my 3-year bumper to bumper ended last november.... so looks like im on my own.

Will probably end up ordering a new one from the U.S. So do i order a set? should i expect the other one to go out soon? Whats the lifespan of HIDs usually. I would expect it to be longer than 3 years!

Yuck. I didn't even think about some KLs being already over 3 years old... sorry...

About ordering from the US : from Amazon.com, you can't. Trading between our countries is sometimes complicated, depending on the goods. With giant outfits like Amazon, you have to deal with the local branch (amazon.ca in our case). You may find some smaller US retailers/resellers who may ship to Canada though, it's just a matter of making sure it's worth it (shipping, exchange, import duties, etc...).

The one site I linked to earlier (lightdepot.ca) appears to have really good prices on what seems to be Osram bulbs, though it doesn't say Osram on the pics they have. $90 a pair sounds great to me. With that said, I've never dealt with that site, don't know their shipping costs, etc... so a bit of a gamble I guess. The ones on Amazon Canada are Philips (same as OEM), but they are $100 a piece...

There are some D3S bulbs on Ebay.ca from China that appear to be Osram knock-offs, going for $20 a pair, but...

Not sure which way I would go if I were in your shoes.

About lifespan : IIRC xenon bulbs give approx. 2000 hours. I could be wrong. Seeing @David_Baker replacing both his OEM xenons early... well, you could get a pair I guess.

I've got a U.S P.O box! I send all of my car parts there! ;)

Ive found a couple "alternatives" on amazon (.com) with strong reviews. Some even with a 2 year warranty.

https://www.amazon.com/CougarMotor-...cement-Bulbs/dp/B01MF7QKUY/ref=cm_wl_huc_item

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NAS23B2/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I3PHW3FJ4662R0&colid=2USHI5BYXNX9

to name a few. I'll update when I get em installed.

thanks to everyone's input for helping me get to this point

So thats one thing crossed off my list.....
