Got the R3/R4 OTA Uconnect update

I wanted to post this so people will know the Over the Air update is real and is happening. Or for the people who have gotten it and want to give ther input on it too.
I have a December 2014 build 2015 Latitude 3.2 LITRE with the 8.4 radio WITHOUT GPS.
I DO NOT HAVE A UCONNECT ACCESS SUBSCRIPTION. I got my notification on the radio screen on 5-6-2017 and did it that day.
I live in a Northern Michigan small town (not a large city full of cell towers) and we have cell phone dead zones in lots of areas.
I am pointing this out because FCA is using 3G to update the radios.
I had no problem down loading the update It only took less then 40 minutes to complete for my radio WITHOUT GPS, dont have an exact time cause i went in to eat lunch after i shut the vehicle off when the first phase of the download was done.
Havent used it much since then but i can say That the Local radio station i listen to does seem clearer and sounds nicer. (Radio Tuner Upgrade was part of the update)
Did NOT lose my presets or any radio settings, I DID HAVE TO Pair my phone again. Have not tried the hands free calling yet hope it has improved this because this system was inferior to the 8.4 radio in my 2012 DODGE Journey.(Improved voice recognition is part of the update)
My SD card with music on it plays just the way it did before the update, matter of fact it started playing in the middle of the song that i had stopped it on.
The USB drive is another story it is recognized by the radio but shows it as empty and i even switched it to the port in the armrest storage and it doesnt work there either, someone else posted a problem with this also in the main post about this upgrade. Not happy about this as i created both the USB drive and the SD card on the same computer using the same software.
I did not change the time on the radio but i reset it to the correct time since the radio has always lost time since it was new, now i will monitor the time and hope it stays correct and does not lose time anymore. (Fix for lost time on the radio is part of the update)
Hope this helps some people to know that the update is real and coming.

Thanks for the info. I wonder if the USB port will behave the same way with an IPOD plugged in. Chances are another update will be needed to fix that problem.

Thanks for letting us know.
The USB problem sucks, I wonder how FCA will fix that.

Can you refuse to update? I am not going to update if that means I will loose my USB drive!

I received the prompt for the update on Saturday, May 6th. My GF and I were cemetery crawling, looking for relatives. Everytime I put the TH into Park, I would get the popup about the update. I kept hitting Later, so it kept prompting me afterwards.

I finally let it install and the screen showed the download. Radio was playing in the background and it stayed on until the download was completed. Took about 20 minutes. The screen changed to Wait 10-15 minutes with a big hourglass. It finished after about 6-7 minutes.

I parked in the garage and left the rest of the install complete. I wasn't watching it, so I don't know how long it took.

Moved the TH to the street on Sunday and back to the garage. I did a quick check and most everything seemed fine. Some icons have moved, and the GPS looked different, with a new color scheme. I found in the GPS, you can go to Options, Map Setup, scroll down to Map Appearance. There you can select the different makes to change the map scheme. I put it on Jeep and now the GPS looks like the way it was before the update.

Only other thing that acted up, was the hands-free system on Monday afternoon. I think it was unavailable, as it wouldn't let me sent any text message by voice prompt. After about 10 minutes, it started working, so I don't know if it was doing something in the background and it completed.

I haven't checked my USB drives to see if there are any issues. My SD card with my music works great. No issues and it started playing from where it left off previously.

I'll go out at lunch and see if I have a USB with music and see if it works.

Hi Robo606,

You will be able to defer the update a number of times but it will eventually require you to perform it on your vehicle. We are currently trying to investigate this USB port concern further.

Doubtful, as I recall reading the specs for Carplay/AA you need a higher resolution screen. The 8.4" units only do 640x480.

I checked my TH at lunch. There was an USB in the console. So I plugged it in. It seemed like it took about 45-50 seconds until the music started playing. But it works. I did do the soft boot (press the vol/mute and tune/enter buttons for 5-7 seconds) on Monday and that may have fixed my USB.

It may have taken a few seconds to go through the USB, being the first time it was plugged in.
