Hello all, just picked up a new to me Cherokee today and want to upgrade my non nav unit to the newer one. I believe it's just the radio that needs to be replaced on the Cherokee. I was wondering if ANY unit would work if it was from a Ram, Dart, 200, etc in the jeep once it was programmed by the dealer. Also wondering where the best place to find one for a reasonable price? Not finding many Jeep units available but have found a few Ram and Chrysler 200 units.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Oh yeah... car-part.com has them for the 2014 from $350 and up! Wish I had some extra cash laying around right now!

Found a few on Car-part, and some others on LKQ! Thanks everyone for your input! I have some other work I want to get sone so I reached out to a couple dealerships who frowned on the idea.

Dealership 1: Said I would have to change a lot more than the radio and I would have to wire in an additional antenna. I suggested using the radio from a salvage car and he said they flag those and if I were able to somehow get around that it would cost $700+ for the unlock code not to mention programming... I said Id look into it and hungup

Dealership 2: Said There is no way it would work. The service person I spoke with said they tried with a brand new vehicle and it didn't even turn on when they buttoned it up..

With this said it's obviously been some... many times. I have XM which apparently uses the same GPS antenna and my current radio is the 8.4A which is navigation ready. Does anyone have any insight that may help educate them? OR do I keep calling other dealerships?

Lies, more lies and the lying liars telling you lies... you're right. It's been done many times successfully. I believe you can get the unlock code from the salvage yard, yes? I think that's what I heard. If not, I'm pretty sure it's in at least one, if not all, of those write-ups by the folks who have already done it.

Go for it! I wish I could right now, but don't have the funds... one of these days, though.

You both echoed what I was thinking. I already I'm not sure how you get the unlock code though, I could get it online as mentioned but how would the salvage yard retrieve it?

On another note, one of the dealerships did mention that it's the same radio in the other FCA cars and technically if you could get everything done it should be doable.

That was the easiest part. I just sent a email to infotainment.com asking for link to pay for code. Did the info on link and 5 minutes later had the code for 20 bucks

It's call Proximity Flash. They add the 8.4 radio code to your build sheet then Flash the computer to match it up to your car.
