Hi All,

Anybody successfully installed a powered subwoofer on the factory head unit.

Please let me know any details you have.

I replaced my factory POS 8" Alpine sub with an 8" Kicker sub + amp. We used the factory sub connections to the speaker level inputs on the amp. If you have the 6 speaker system, you can tap into any of the speaker wires. I have done this in the past. Right rear door is the closest, depending on where you intend to mount the sub. My amp is in the spare tire well. There is enough room for the amp, even with a full size spare! The amp required wires from the battery.

2016 Cherokee Trailhawk: Mango Tango Pearl Coat over Black.
OPTIONS: Every Available Factory Option/Package Except Remote CD Player.
MODS: Whispbars; Mopar Cargo Cover; Mopar Cargo Mat; Mopar/KICKER 9 Speaker Upgrade; KICKER Sub and Amp; Ziebart Undercoating; aFe CAI; Red Interior Trim Pieces.
FUTURE MODS: Remote CD Player; Mopar Rock Rails; Rear Fog Lights.

I just recently built a box for my Boston Acoustics 10" G5. Right now it is powered by and old JL Audio 250/1 slash series amp and I used an Audiocontrol LC2i to pull signal from the two rear speakers to send to the sub.

How big of a sound difference was there sticking with an 8" sub in the factory location? I haven't pulled the liner back to look at it, but I assume it's a shallow mounting depth and would require a sub that doesn't need much volume? Would love to upgrade mine, but with the KL already not having a lot of storage space, I really don't want to have a box taking up room or ditch the spare, since I do offroad it.

Huge difference. The amp has a remote bass gain, and I keep it about 1/2 way. The bass on the HU EQ is set at 0. Even at 1/2, I can vibrate the mirrors, on songs with a lot of base. On my iPod, I have set the EQ to none. I can feel the music. I can also break my ear drums if I'm not careful.

Sub: Kicker CompR8, DVC, 4-ohm, 150w RMS, 300w Max. Wired DVC in parallel to bring it to 2-ohm
Amp: Kicker 43CXA300.1, 150w RMS, 300w Max

There was plenty of room for the sub: mounting depth of the sub is 4.125". Amp is in the spare tire well with my full size spare.
