The problem is that Chrysler no longer considers that you have a radio in your car. Chrysler doesn't even refer to it as a radio anymore. According to Chrysler you have a "head unit" that basically is a computer that offer many functions. including radio, and must be operational at all times. There is another post somewhere about there being a drain on the Cherokee's battery at all times. This is because the "head unit" is always operating.

I was doing a search for a problem and came across this thread. I'm having the same issue: the radio and dashlight doesn't go off when the car is shut off.

Is there any factual basis that the radio isn't supposed to shut off? I could've sworn that this only started happening today...meaning the radio always did shut off before...and of course, by the time I found out about it, it's too late to call the dealer.

This youtube video of a 2014 Grand Cherokee is doing the exact same thing my Cherokee is doing:

I went through the manual page-by-page, hoping to find something confirming this. Anyone find anything in the manual...?

I'm afraid that I'll wake up to a dead battery tomorrow...

Someone posted that you can restart uconnect by pressing the mute and tune buttons simultaneously and holding them. Haven't done it myself nor seen anyone say it will help your issue, but it seems like it might. Worth a shot.

I will try the mute+tune buttons the next time. Thanks for the suggestion.

But happy happy joy joy...!!

I couldn't bear the thought of the radio and dashlights draining the battery overnight so I did what the person did in the youtube video. I disconnected the battery. Waited a few minutes and reconnected the battery.

Note: I only disconnected/reconnected the negative terminal.

Went for a drive to charge the battery since it had been draining for the past few hours, and just got back.

Everything is fine again. The radio and dashlights did shut off with the car. Did this several times.

Be assured that I will ask the dealer about this since disconnecting the battery is not the ideal solution.

I do agree that the system is live at all times.
I find that the only way to silence the radio is to mute.
Also the Navigation system seems to be active at all times even when seemingly not on.
If I have the radio on and the speed limit active on the Nav. it will call out when over the limit.
I also understand that it has battery drain guard to prevent a dead battery. Now It was suppose to be for the always on 12v outlets to protect the battery from draining if used to long with the outlets. I could assume that the same circuit could also control the computer drain on the system.
I would imagine with the minimal drain with the off electronics it would take a long time to drain to the safety point. Unless the vehicle was in storage for a while, I would not anticipate a problem for owners. It will be interesting to see the first post of a dead battery after non use and how long it took.

In my current car, you can listen to the radio for approx 40 minutes after shutting off the car and then it stops. Same if you turn it on without the car running. Maybe there is a similar cut-off in our Cherokees?

Ok I think we're talking about 2 different issues in the same thread.

My apologies for threadjacking but I was looking for possible solutions to my issue. I probably should've created a new thread.

I believe the OP and thread is talking about shutting off the radio while the car is ON.

My problem was the radio (and dashlights) NOT shutting off when the car is OFF.

The youtube video I posted earlier of a 2014 Grand Cherokee details exactly what my problem was: that is, when the car is OFF, the radio and dashlights are still ON.

If I had thought about it, I should've taken a video of my TH doing this and presented it to the dealer. As it is, I'll have to wait till it happens the next time, film it, and show it to the dealer.

Anyhow, disconnecting the battery seemed to do the trick. Not sure if this will finally fix it, though the youtube poster noted that it only worked for a couple of days and the problem was back.

you have to define "off"
my TH will not turn off until I open the door and leave.
if I turn the key off and stay in the Jeep, it will stay on, music, instruments......
off has a new definition in the Cherokee

2014 White Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk
3.2L
Leather Interior Group, Canyon Brown
Black Hood Decal
MFG build date 10/13
Black Keys all the way up on the stereo:
"Well my Next-Jeep, be nothin' like my Ex-Jeep"

Maybe you have the Engine Off Power Delay set to 5 or 10 minutes
