This thread you posted to on this subject was started in December of 2013. Did you bother to read it?

Your 2 first posts... I am sure if you bought the car, it is because you found something else about it that you liked before deciding to spent money on it !

Seems to be a trend....the Winnebago TT I just purchased does not allow the radio/stereo to be turned off, either! The HUGE blue screen stares at us every night when we go to sleep! We've learned to throw a towel over it to dim the room....

Just like the Government, FCA Corporation (Fiat Chrysler Auto) is taking more and more control away from the driver and putting their computers "in the driver's seat." The 2014-2016 Jeep Grand Cheokees have a touch screen feature which, as an example, disallows one from turning "off" the radio. It is said the radio is an integral part of the entire U-Connect system and cannot be controlled other than cranking the volume down and/or pressing the "mute" feature. Annoying, especially if you forget and leave the volume up; when you fire up the car the next time, you may be blasted out of your seat even if you've activated the "mute" button before shutting down. Just another distraction with this "cutting edge" electronic system.

@Skipper - It's not a radio. It's a head unit with an integrated radio center, media center, controls center, climate center, navigation center, phone center, and apps center, including GPS, temp and clock readouts, etc, depending on model.

To turn the audio down, turn the volume knob all the way to the left; just like the good old days. Easy. Or do the same with the volume control on the steering wheel.

My old pickup has a radio and if the knob is not turned all the way to the left, the next time it's fired up it comes on at the same volume it was set at when shut down. What's the difference?

I am having radio issues as well. I have a 2015 grand cherokee. My problem is the radio gets "stuck" when I turn on the car. The radio is blasting and nothing works, not the volume, changing the screen, muting it.... nothing... plays for about 15 min and then the screen goes black and reboots. Anyone experiencing this problem? I just came back from Jeep service and they tell me "sorry, we can't replicate the problem" and sent me home. I have a call into the manager..... SHREWSBERRY WORLD JEEP IS RUDE.. AND THEY HAVE NO CLUE. I am a returning customer, 2nd Jeep and can't believe they cannot fix a problem with a Jeep that is less then 6 months old....

Time to update this thread. I'm not sure about 2017 but our 2016 has this problem.

I wonder if FCA/Jeep Cares would make a call to VW/Audio about their solution for this problem.
On out 2015 Audi when you hold the mute button in for about 1 second the radio WILL turn off and STAY off (doesn't matter HOW many times you push the start button) till you turn it back on.

Another black eye for the KL being the best, easiest crossover to tow behind a motor home.
Black eye 1: Research Ford/GM/Jeep before buying...OPS what's this extra piece of paper in the owners manual.
Black eye 2: Jeep Cares says sorry your 2016 doesn't get the FREE wiring harness!
Dealer says $700.00 to install! Did it my self for less than $150.00!
And now every time I hook up I have to listen to the radio because there's NO OFF button.

Thanks for listening I feel better... till our June trip.

Here's a tip that might help. Turn the volume knob to the left. Turns off the volume and it stays off. Same ol' same ol'.
