I'm not adhering to the guidelines >:D

I picked up a 64gb SDXC card a couple of weeks ago...my 32gb won't hold everything. I formatted NTFS and dumped everything I had onto it. It's a bit slow but it works fine so far. When I'm done tinkering I'll post some results.

We use a 64 gb Pny in ours and have not had any problems.
We just use it on shuffle with no search so far, but if you use the search it will take longer as it has twice as much to go through.

SDXC. Same type of card as Malice in the post above.

I've been messing around with different formats for a few days...My 32GB Sandisk Extreme that worked fine for several months just will not work even though it's fine on a PC. My 64GB PNY is having no difficulties other than being slow if you want to "search". My formerly working fine Samsung S3 when in bluetooth mode will no longer display the artist and title, only the device name.

I popped in a 32GB USB 3.0 and it worked fine. Messed around with SD and Bluetooth and now it doesn't work.

I was going to resolve myself to just getting a 64GB micro SD for my phone and live without album art but like I said, now that doesn't even want to work. This thing is random as all **** on what it want's to do on any given day.

Hi what type of sd memory card would work with my Jeep. Do I have to have uconnect connected for a memory card to work with music. Thank you for you time.
See the first post in this thread.

All you have to do is select media and then SD card. No subscription required, if that's what you're asking.

Thanks. That is the one I have too and it's been working fine. Buying another SD card is not on my immediate agenda. But most of my album art does not display so I'll make sure they're jpeg and look at number of pixels first. I already comply with FAT32, folder structure and file limits and using MP3 files.

I know I'm a little late to this discussion but I had the same issue with album art on my uConnect 8.4 in my 2015 Challenger. A lot of my album art imbedded in my music files were 1000 x 1000 pixels or bigger. They were that big because I use a tablet at home to control my networked music player and the album art looked better on the tablet. I discovered that any album art bigger than 950 x 950 pixels were the files that wouldn't display the art. I resized everything bigger than 950 x 950 to 950x 950 pixels and so far all my album art displays fine on my uConnect display.

I just dug up an old 8G from one of my cameras and cleaned it off. Then I tossed about 100 M4A songs in a folder and saved the folder to the SD. It works just fine, no pausing, no waiting, excellent sound quality (M4A!). I just copy the AAC (which is I guess m4a anyway) from my itunes folder and I have no problems. I get the artwork also for all but a couple of really old songs.

Thanks for the report. I wondered what the largest size was Uconnect would deal with. I was so happy to get all the art work displayed at 600 x 600 I never tried anything larger. The next time I load some more music to my SD card I'll recreate everything and use Sanse MP3 Art Sizer to batch resize everything to 950 x 950.

I just loaded a 64GB usb into my 8.4. Resized all my art to 600x600 (as many of mine were over 1000x1000), sorted by album, etc. The drive has about 54GB full. Initial load time was about 5 minutes. After that, after I start the car, it takes about maybe 10-15 seconds to start playing a song, but about 30 seconds to actually show the album art. And it takes about maybe 30 seconds for the Browse manu to populate all the songs. A little long for 2015 technology, but then again, 54GB is a lot of files to load at once.

Another consideration is memory. Which 8.4 do you have? The RA3 (8.4A) has less memory than the RA4 (8.4AN). My head unit takes about 10-15 seconds to boot up but after that Browse, playing songs and displaying art work are immediate. But I only have about 8GB of music.

I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Overland, with the SD Card reader option. It has been a "nightmare". Original problem was that it randomly repeated songs, and the playlist showed the songs duplicated ass well. I am using a Sandisk 16MB card with a class 10 rating. Also created two folders with no more that 75 songs (MP3) in each.

Problem partially fixed. Very few to no duplications while playing music. However, when viewing the playlist, the first song begins with a numeric count of 100, and not 1.

This only occurs when using the SD Card. When using the USB port next to it, and playing music from a "thumb drive", no problems whatsoever.

I am my wits end and am surmising that the SD Card reader is bad. Any suggestions?

Gave up on mine.... bought a spare iPod on amazon incase mine dies... 100 gig music, not only loads with pictures in a blink of an eye, I did sound comparison using the same source file... the iPod (with eq set flat) sounds noticeably better... one song I tested is an old bob dylan song... sd card... sounds ok, but when played on iPod, I hear sound rolling off the rear pillar speakers... totally absent on sd

Just finished adding some albums to my 32 Gig SD card that already had about 9 Gig of songs on it. When I inserted it, it took the RA4 quite some time to get it sorted out. Didn't keep track of exactly how long but it might have been as long as 5 minutes. It would quickly play a song that came up in the list, but it was obvious the Artists, Albums, Songs, etc. lists were incomplete. Somehow it recognized the SD card contents had changed. It's almost like it is storing an index in non-volatile memory so it will be snappy until the next change of contents.

Wanted to thank you for your post again. Yesterday I put a couple new albums on the SD card (actually I reloaded it from scratch with unaltered source from my PC) and resized all the artwork on the SD to 900 x 900 using Sanse MP3 Art Sizer and all the artwork displays on the RA4. Artwork at 1000 x 1000 will not display.

Do you use any particular software? Baud rate? Or settings on MP3? I have few song that says format not recognised. So I use a MP3 conversion for all songs and only some of those has sound. Others are like muted. It plays but you can't heard it.
Any recommendation?

I use MusicBee to convert formats and update the music files with album art, lyrics and all the other tags. Includes a lot of automation (i.e. batch processing) to make changes across a large number of music files. It is a phenomenal tool. Sort of like a Swiss Army Knife. But it is a Kludge too. Since its interface does not conform to Windows standards, it took a long time for me to figure it out. To be fair, I had never worked with music files, tagging, music organization, synchronization, playlists, etc. So it took a while for me just to understand the music file management space.

Maybe this software would help you analyze your mp3 files. One thing you could look at is ReplayGain (RG) which is a tag in the music file that can be set to change the volume some players will play the music file at. MusicBee will allow this tag to be inspected, reset, and set.

Sanse Mp3 Art Sizer is another batch processor that will resize the album art in many music files. This is helpful for Uconnect since it will not display album art larger than around 950 x 950.

Both programs are freeware.

Thought about getting an SD card for music but I wound up buying a 32gb flash drive today instead, put about 4gb of music on as a test and it seems to work great.

Great. The nice thing about the Cherokee too is you could have 2 USB drives and a SD card and Bluetooth and Aux all hooked up and just select the different units from the Media screen.
