I went off-roading on a muddy, rocky, and severely weathered trail this weekend. I put the vehicle in 4 Low (Mud/Sand Mode) just to play around with it, even though I don't think it was required, and you could here a bunch of noise coming from the transfer cases. Sounded like a grinding noise but it wasn't grinding. Sounded almost like an old rusty door opening slowing. Is this normal, just the sound of the transfer case distributing power among the wheels? The same thing happened when I went driving on the beach and my front tires hit the compacted sand while my rear tires were in really soft sand.
Off-roading is new experience for me and it was enjoyable. I might be able to talk the wife into the TH+ lift now. I did hear my skid plate hitting some rocks on the trail.
I did get some three wheel action on the trail and it scared the **** out of the wife. Also when through a river that was at least 16" deep because it moved my plastic fender in the wheel well up against the tire.
