2017 Jeep Compass

What are your thoughts about the new Compass?

I personal like the exterior design yet not satisfied with the interior look as it's similar in the Renegade design which not a big fan of. It is smaller than the Cherokee and doesn't seem to be a big competition to its siblings I see it more city driving than 4x4. After all, it's a great new look for Jeep and addition to the Jeep family.

To me, it looks like a blend of the Grand Cherokee and a Cherokee. Maybe the name should have been Semi Grand Cherokee......

I think it looks a lot better than the previous one and actually like the changes. I did not watch the video yet so can't speak about the interior. I think it will be a decent seller to those who want to enter the Jeep family on a budget, depending on price point.

Having driven a patriot for over a month when my first Cherokee got totaled I can say the one I had was complete garbage.

I had a compass 2015 I think as a rental also for about a week. It was an improvement over the patriot but if I had to pick between the Dodge Dart I got right after the compass broke down or the compass, I'd take the dart.

The renegade was a pleasant replacement for the patriot in the compact SUV market, especially world wide.

The new compass is taking a bit of a different approach than it was but has a specific purpose for FCA. It's a size category thing world wide. They design and release one type of vehicle world wide rather than have a completely different vehicle for the region. It works and seriously, the inclusion of a trailhawk model can HELP shut up the haters.

Each platform has its purpose, to help keep jeep the name alive. Forums like this help. I look forward to seeing the new compass in person. I think it's a nice change from the old version.

I guess I'm confused over where this Compass sits. It is built on the Renegade platform, it is considered a compact crossover, but isn't our Cherokee considered a compact? The Renegade is a Cute Ute. The Compass has more interior space than our Cherokee and a not quite 3" longer wheelbase than the Renegade! Looks like it shares the Cherokee dash. The GC was never considered a full size SUV. The new Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are going to be body on frame to compete with the Tahoe/Expedition and go upmarket to go up against BMW/Range Rover/Mercedes. I guess that these will be considered full size. If they use a Ram frame, they will be huge. If they come up with a smaller frame, they can bring back the Dakota.

2016 Cherokee Trailhawk: Mango Tango Pearl Coat over Black.
OPTIONS: Every Available Factory Option/Package Except Remote CD Player.
MODS: Whispbars; Mopar Cargo Cover; Mopar Cargo Mat; Mopar/KICKER 9 Speaker Upgrade; KICKER Sub and Amp; Ziebart Undercoating; aFe CAI.
FUTURE MODS: Remote CD Player; Mopar Rock Rails; Rear Fog Lights.

It is confusing. From what's been said and written, the new Compass is meant to fill a gap in markets other than North America's, where folks see the KL as too big/heavy, but want something more relaxed than a Renegade. And the Compass will be built all over the place so they are hoping for that connection to help sales where they build them. No V6 means lower production costs, and target markets are less eager for power than we are.

It may have a few more cubic feet behind the back seats, but I haven't checked space going forward where I have a feeling the Cherokee is much roomier, for occupants. For me I prefer more room for occupants, YMMV.

The fine line between cross-over and compact cross-over has gotten so thin it doesn't exist anymore.

I don't know the model years, but the outgoing Compass was "ok" for me in the looks department. To me the front end looks like the 99-04 WJ. I still never had any desire to buy one. The original Compass is clearly the Jeep that should have never been. "Goofy" is the only non-profane word I can use to describe it. This all new Compass shouldn't carry the same name at the original. They are so starkly different.

If I had a need for a 2nd vehicle and wanted smaller, I would have seriously looked at a Renegade. With this new Compass, I have to ask "What's a Renegade?" Hehehe.
