Valid point, but I'm not sure why you started a thread on this topic. Seems like more of a 'deep thoughts by Jack Handy' kind of topic engineered specifically to make the folks who do it feel stupid or defensive.

It's an identifier and there are a lot of weirdos out there. Most people use the same, or similar, username across many forums and other online services. If you tick somebody off online or if they find a reason to track you down (stalker or other type of criminal), it's pretty easy for them to find the picture of the car you posted and now they have your plate. Maybe they can't find your residential information online but if you live in a smaller town they can narrow it down.

Your psychoanalytical skills are faulty. I was just curious to hear the thoughts of people who decide to go to the trouble of hiding their license plates. That deep.

Ha! About as deep as Jack Handy's thoughts... yeah, I did the old 'license plate blur' when I first started posting photos of my cars, and about 1 month into it I thought, "WTF does it matter? Everybody sees it out in the wild anyway." Same conclusion as you.

I don't block mine, however...

I'd argue that "People see it everyday" is far different than "People see it online."

I don't interact, share opinions, or converse with people on the road. We're people who happened to be traveling the same direction.

On a forum, I'm a person with beliefs and a personality. Some people will like me, other's won't.

If you use the same thought above, and add in someone who is emotionally imbalanced...they could take advantage of the situation and take "online" issues, "offline."

Not really for this forum, but in other ones that I have had, I did block my plate. Since I lived in CA, and modifying your car was illegal due to smog, all my post had my plate removed. That way they could be used as evidence against me and/or give police surfing the internet my license plate so they could track me down.

Your avatar makes you stalkable in my book.

I participated in a race event over the weekend, and one of the fellows taking photos asked everyone if they had any issues of photos of their cars uploaded where their license plate was visible. The reason some would be cautious is insurance companies having proof of racing, so analogous to the concern MKR stated. It was said many years ago, Progressive Insurance actually canceled policies after snooping on different forums. Some folks racing new cars also have warranty-voiding concerns.

Every time I went to the track, I removed my plates, that way nobody could take pictures of it.
