I went ahead and also updated my password (after they generated me one). And I had the same trouble.

Ended up just letting LastPass do all the heavy lifting.

Clearly I wouldn't want that to happen at my banking site, but a car forum?
there a bunch of users that use the same email/password combinations for a bunch of their accounts. so its for everyone to know that using strong passwords is good practice.

Password general practices are sadly anything but "general."

This event caused me to audit my LastPass and update a lot of other passwords on various sites. Most were just out of date, there were a few lazy duplicates (shame on me.)

LastPass offers a Security Audit feature. I'm sitting in the low 90's, because a few of the sites I have saved passwords at, have sad restrictions. How does a site in 2016 have the restriction "Numbers only" and "10 digits or less.".

So, even the most security minded consumers, can still be caught up by poor requirements on the side of the site.

Its not that big of deal---already had to do mine--and I am still able to get on here---and took me a couple of minutes since I am a senior citizen--rest of you should be able to do it in a few seconds.

I predict we'll start to see a lot less posting to this forum as many people will just be frustrated trying to remember how to log in and eventually give up.

I am with you. I got this same message on another forum( that must be tied to this one )and when I went to reset the password there I ran into the RIDICULOUS overkill they implemented with the 10 character must have large/small case, numbers, symbols, et al... Just too much. It is even worse here as they are going to make you do it over and over on a yearly basis. Not anything I want a part of. This is a car forum not a bank site for crying out loud.

Anyway, I cancelled my account on the other site and will do so here now too. Way too much effort for a password to bother. Even more so now that I a not a regular anymore and am only here occasionally.

Best of luck to you all with this annoying and ridiculous new policy.

I just changed one word to capital letters to meet the requirements so it was not too annoying to me. Sorry to see you go over a password that you only have to enter one time if your choose to check that option.

10 Character passwords aren't overkill, it's what I would consider the minimum mandatory on *any* site. My passwords tend to be 32+ characters unless a site doesn't allow that big a password. Then I'll drop down to 24. After 24 it's 12. if it goes lower that that as a max password length, unless the site is needed for work, it's not worth the exposure risks.

Use 1Password, or LastPass, or similar products. You remember 1 main password and you're good.
