Actually the subject of a vehicle lock box could apply to any valuable. And if you really want to spend some money...

That first option is interesting. I'm not sure I'd want to wear one of those RFID rings all the time, but the concept / tech is pretty awesome.

I watched a video a while back about RFID Enabled grips on weapons. The video highlighted a shotgun. Two guys were at the range, one had the ring, the other did not. Even with the safety off, ring-less guy couldn't fire the shotgun, handed it to the Green Lantern, and he was firing immediately.

Tech like this could eliminate a lot of accidental home shootings, and potentially weapon theft.* Could also protect law enforcement and owners by having their own gun used against them.

*I'm wondering how integrated the grip is. Could someone steal the gun, replace the grip, and swap it for the stock one?

I'm going to install a 'Fast Holster - Super Magnet' onto the center molding next to my right knee. I use it in other vehicles and it works great. I reinforce it with a metal plate behind the plastic molding. The trick for me is figuring out how to remove that part of the center console.

My wife and I have our pistols on us 99% of the time... likely closer to 99.9. There are times where one of us needs to surrender their gun to the other (having a drink or are on meds). When we test drove the KLs we thought the under seat cubby on the passenger side was a nice place to store a pistol and could be modified to be locked. Unfortunately, we didn't realize we would lose this cubby when we go the heated/cooled seats.

For now, I flipped the spare and have a lockable box in in that space. I just don't like having to unholster and use it in the parking lot. We can be pretty covert, but still. I wish there was an under seat drawer like the Tuffy one we have in our JKs.

An do the carry question... I carry a SIG P938, The wife carries a S&W MP Shield 9mm, and depending on where we are (like hiking or in the back country) We also have a Springfield XD-M .45ACP. I carry shot shell in the first two before switching to lead. The shot shell is perfect for snakes and such. I also had to use it once when a mad (and mentally ill) raccoon tried attacking us when hiking.

In Utah we are lucky to have great laws protecting our 2nd Amendment rights. I do have my conceal carry permit and carry my Sprifield Armory XDm-45 compact with me on any road trip. It stays in my Crossbreed Super Tuck holster (a personal gift from Mark Craighead the founder of Crossbreed before he passed and it's one of my prized possessions) unless I'm entering a gun free zone or entering a state that doesn't have reciprocity with Utah. Then I place it in a GunVault MV500 gun safe I have under my seat. This safe has a cable that I have wrapped around the large seat crossmember under the seat. It sits on the high spot by me heals and to keep it from sliding around I stuck the grippy side of Velcro on the bottom of it. This way it is easy to get to and not very conspicuous when I need to stow my firearm. My safe is also great from keeping excess cash out of my wallet and still protected.

I'm guessing with the new licensed open carry in Texas it doesn't have to be concealed any more inside the vehicle? Correct me if I'm wrong on that.

I have mine on my person 99% of the time so I haven't really looked into any vehicle mounting options. If i have to leave it in the KL I usually put it in the seat compartment and tuck in the pull tab so that it doesn't look like a compartment to a would-be thief looking through my window.

I carry a Sig P320 .40

This is exactly what I do. To me a lock bock or other holding device just tells a would be thief "hey look there's something in here I don't want you to take."

There was also a question 4 or 5 years ago when the TX law was changed to where basically anyone could have a pistol in their vehicle. Up until then, it was illegal (for the most part) unless you had your CHL. When you were approached by an officer, you (CHL holder) had to announce the pistol was in the vehicle. After the law was changed to where anyone could have it in their vehicle, the question was did the CHL holder still have to make the announcement when there was no requirement for a non-licensed person to do so? I retired 3 years ago so it may have been addressed by the legislature now.
