Did the clock repair guy say anything about the condition of the gear train? With a clock that's 115 years old, some of the holes in the plates of the movement, the ones the wheels run in, might be a little worn robbing it of some power.

No he did not. However I will say since I took it back to him it's not keeping time. It was running about 2 minutes slow every hour. Now it's keeping time just fine and he's working on running it out. He said once it is unwound the whole way he wants to wind it the 4 turns then put it back together and make sure it runs the full 8 days. So it's gonna be a few weeks still.

There might be a way to fully discharge the power stored in the coils. Most watches have a feature like this.
