Counter-surfing is so old skool

Wall-surfing is where it's at now.

Planning on moving my various home automation pieces from tablet/laptop to a dedicated setup. That thermostat is very likely going away.

All of my home automation, while the software is PC based, is contained in a stand alone controller that does it's thing without human interface. Mostly lighting control and a few automated appliance items like timed dehumidifier operation, etc. Simple stuff really. It does have wireless remote control via dedicated remotes for when I want to do something not on the predetermined schedule, but I think the next step is going to be a wall mounted controller like you are headed for. Also looking to integrate wifi in the mix to be able to add voice control. Interested in your setup.

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.

The ultimate programmable system, I call it the finger, switch, and button system, millions of possible combinations and impossible to hack.

Well, not completely impossible, if somebody has an axe, .
