Storm chaser deaths in TX

Just found out about the three storm chasers who died in a crash chasing a tornado.

The headline got me when it said it happened in Texas. Next was the first line of the article that said a Suburban t-boned a Jeep.

It is always upsetting to hear that folks die needlessly, but I was relieved to see the picture of the accident was not a Mango Tango Cherokee.
@Len1304 glad you are safe.

Thank you for your concern. I am okay. The storms are severe and very violent. I will be chasing when the system comes closer to the DFW metroplex. The storm chasers, two of them were part of The Weather Channel chasing team. They were professionals.

I've only seen storm chasing on TV like most folks, but having been a medic I can relate to the level of stress behind the wheel, the adrenaline pumping, the excitement, having to multitask while rolling at (often) high rates of speed. It's risky business. The power and dark beauty of these storms also distracts your average driver, so chasers have that to deal with also.

Glad you're Ok Len, and stay safe out there.

I'm out of Houston, and have always been interested in severe weather. I've thought about spending a summer chasing, but i don't know how to track such storms. Know of any ways to start? i know they have some in person courses, but i'm not sure if they are useful.

Consider taking a SkyWarn class. They are already over with for the year though. They are free. I wouldn't recommend it personally unless you have some training. Storm tracking, first aid, recovery and off roading experience.

Again, thank you. We took a direct his from what may have been a tornado last night here at my apartment but it may have just been very violent winds. It was a heck of a ride. I chased after it passed to help people.

Two of the people killed were storm chasers for The Weather Channel. They were driving a wrangler and t boned the suburban. Sadly they weren't wearing seat belts. It's very sad and probably could have been prevented. This is a reminder for everyone to keep your eyes on the road.

Sad and senseless deaths for TV ratings. The amount of money spent by the 3 major networks in the Okla City market is insane. They now do 24/7 weather coverage if even so much as a raindrop falls in the viewing area. More than a few folks were madder than **** when the last few minutes of one of the NCAA basketball games was preempted by the local 'weather ratings gods' for nothing more than a hailstorm.
