Well your timing is scary. She texted 20 minutes ago - on her way... no bull...

On her way up, she sent a surprise text one hour into the trip, but she did it because they stopped at a restaurant I really like and she knew I would be envious. Yeah, thanks... And then I got a text when they got to destination, though she does that reluctantly (sigh).

We got 2 inches of snow overnight and it will remain below freezing today. They got just a dusting, skies cleared up there and here early this morning so the roads should be good. Still glad she has the Cherokee on winter tires.

Expecting them back at dinner time.

Sorry for the delay in reporting back... Had a full plate yesterday, I ended up crashing early before my usual late-late forum visit...

The Eagle landed just before dinner, apparently unharmed (pheww) and from the little report we got, the trip was uneventful. She clocked close to 700 miles on the Cherokee, which isn't bad for her first road trip. Weather and road conditions better than predicted a few days before, which is fine, less stress for everyone lol.
She averaged 25 mpgs with 4 occupants and a roof mounted cargo box. And a strong headwind on the return leg (milder tailwind on the leg up). Not bad.
Edit to add : first leg was done above 40F while return leg done at and below freezing... so the mpg numbers are really good considering, though I'm sure she didn't drive faster than 65mph (all 2-lane 55mph roads).

Phewww...

Hahaha... Funny thing is I thought about measuring thread depth before she left, but...I knew the Blizzaks would hold up well in 45-50F weather (leg up) and also knew it would be colder on the way back.

My wife was the one who told her she was taking the Cherokee, the evening before (thursday), and apparently she had a look of pure shock on her face... and I missed that lol.

It's ironic she didn't do this trip in her 2017 rental car, which was the original plan. I mean the 2017 Corolla is a boring car, but a very competent point A > point B piece of engineering ; the car is probably as big as a Camry from 2 generations back. And there wouldn't have been 700 more miles on the Cherokee's clock, exposure to potential bad things, etc... but... being a parent changes your perspective...
