I80 is a mess here, chain controls in place, slide outs and wrecks all over the place.

It's 57F here right now. Gorgeous. Still some snow on the ground, lakes still have a decent ice cover, but it's all melting fast.

Daughter left on a 4-day trip, heading NNE about 300 miles, into a somewhat isolated area. She's bringing 3 friends along, he first highway trip of more than one hour, really. I mentionned in another thread she got a loaner last week, because the Versa has an airbag recall pending, and Nissan offered the loaner... which funnily is a 2017 Corolla. On all season tires.

Weather forecast for monday, which is return day : slightly below 0F overnight sunday with rain changing to snow, and some snow on monday...

So like @rumrunner did a while ago for his daughter, I let her take the Cherokee, which still has the Blizzaks on... so now I wait...

Thanks

Oh yeah I remember. Your daughter is slightly older (mine is 19), so when you mentionned going away to college, taking the Cherokee on a trip... I knew my day was coming lol.

Ours is going away for university in the fall as well, so we're already planning ahead to early September...

Edit to add : if the Cherokee comes back with so much as a little ding, I'll be blaming you

It's practically summer out, here (50* F ). I'm taking the KL to a dealership in another town to get the oil changed, tomorrow. Should be a nice drive. My gf is going with me so I don't accidentally bring home that 2015 Wrangler Rubicon that's sitting on the lot staring at me.

sweet. 1st year of college is a big deal. for them *and* us. nice thing is, most 1st yr college kids aren't allowed to bring a car on campus

& ok ok I'll play scapegoat for damages. but it's a nice feeling isn't it? letting her take it. I tried to get her & her friend to txt me at several milestones. I've told both my kids, so if I don't hear from them again me & the authorities know where to start looking. that usually gets them to agree. also now when daughter gets a ride home from school I ask for car & driver info. she might be wanting a car for her senior year. gotta ponder on that one for a while ...

also once my son did a late night drive from Philly to Boston after a concert so they wouldn't miss classes Monday. it was winter & conditions were iffy with some frozen precip here and there. stayed up all night scanning traffic cams ahead of them, telling them the conditions ahead of them. poor guys. but hey, they'll understand when they have kids, right?

Thanks for the heads-up, and yes, always be safe on the highways out there, especially for this holiday weekend.

My GF and I are driving up to Green Bay tomorrow (so short road trip really) to see some of the sights, including the recently finished I41 construction project that I worked on for 8 months almost a couple years ago. And of course, we can't leave until we stop at the Packers Pro Shop as well. I need some more Packers attire.
